Natural Yellow Topaz Stone in Pakistan
Yellow topaz is a hard, lively gem in golden, honey and sherry shades, and the orange-pink "imperial" tones are the ones collectors chase. In local markets you may hear it called Sunehla. One thing to be clear on from the start: it is not Pukhraj, which is yellow sapphire. Each stone here is single, natural and photographed as it is, and sits within our wider topaz collection.

Golden and imperial topaz
Topaz forms in many colours, and after colourless, yellow to golden-brown is the most common natural one. "Imperial topaz" is the trade name for the finest orange-yellow to orange-pink stones, with Brazil's Ouro Preto area the classic source. Pakistan, for its part, is known for pink topaz from Katlang near Mardan, covered on our main topaz page.
Yellow topaz, citrine or Pukhraj?
These three yellow stones are mixed up all the time in Pakistani markets, sometimes deliberately.

Choosing yellow topaz
- Colour: a rich golden to orange tone is worth more than pale straw yellow, and pinkish-orange imperial shades rank highest.
- Clarity: yellow topaz is usually eye-clean, so visible inclusions should mean a lower price.
- Cut: good facets give strong sparkle. Topaz crystals are long, so ovals and pears are common shapes.
- Treatment: some topaz is heated or coated to change its colour. We state any treatment we know of on the listing.
Wearing and care
At 8 on the Mohs scale topaz resists scratches well, but its perfect cleavage means one hard knock can split it. Pick a protective setting for a ring and keep it away from steam and sudden heat; our topaz care guide has more. Topaz is a November birthstone.

We check every stone before listing it. Delivery is a flat Rs. 500 by insured, tracked courier: Karachi usually 1 to 2 working days, other major cities 2 to 4, smaller towns up to about 7. Open the parcel and check the stone before paying the rider, and return it unused within 7 days if it is not right.
