Known in Urdu as Beruj
Natural Aquamarine (Beruj) Stone in Pakistan
Aquamarine is the cool, sea-blue sister of emerald, and in the local trade it often goes by the name Beruj. What people love about it is the clean, watery clarity, like looking into shallow water. Each aquamarine at Authentic Gems is one natural stone, photographed honestly and priced on its own, so you can line up tone, clarity and size side by side before you order.

Why prices vary so widely
Two aquamarines of the same weight can be priced very differently, and the reasons are simple. Depth of colour comes first: a saturated blue is far rarer than a pale one. Clarity is next, because buyers expect aquamarine to be eye-clean, and visible inclusions knock the price down quickly. A good cut brings out brilliance, and big clean stones carry a premium per carat. To compare listings, divide each price by its carat weight.
Aquamarine from our own mountains
The Shigar valley and the area around Skardu in Gilgit-Baltistan are known worldwide for fine beryl crystals. Plenty of our customers like the idea of wearing a gem from Pakistan itself, and when we know where a stone was mined, we put it on the listing.
Easy checks for a genuine stone
- Natural aquamarine feels cool to the touch and stays cool longer than glass.
- Turn it and look through the side: the blue often shifts to a paler or almost colourless tone from another angle.
- Glass can show round bubbles and swirls, while blue topaz, a frequent substitute, usually looks a more electric blue.
Our authenticity page explains how we check each stone, and you are welcome to have any purchase tested independently.
Birthstone and beliefs
Aquamarine is the March birthstone. Old sailors' lore tied it to the sea and safe passage, and it is traditionally worn for calm, courage and clear speech, often in silver. These are traditional associations, not guaranteed effects. Its soft colour works in rings, pendants and earrings, for men and women alike.
Care
It is tough, but a hard knock can chip an edge. Clean it in warm soapy water and store it away from harder stones like sapphire.
