What you get

  • A loose stone bought from Authentic Gems, set in a 925 sterling silver ring.
  • A ring made to the size you give us, for a man or a woman.
  • A setting style chosen to suit the stone's hardness and shape.
  • Delivery by insured, tracked courier anywhere in Pakistan, paid in cash only after you have looked the ring over.

We only work in silver. If you would rather have gold, buy the loose stone from us and take it to your own jeweller.

Setting styles and the stones they suit

Bezel

A band of silver runs all the way round the edge of the stone. It gives the most protection and is the usual pick for men's rings, cabochons and softer stones like feroza, opal, lapis, coral and pearl.

Claw (prong)

Four or six claws grip the stone and leave most of it open to the light, which makes faceted stones look brighter. This is best for hard gems such as neelam, yaqoot, pukhraj, topaz and aquamarine.

Half bezel

Silver wraps two sides of the stone and leaves the others open, a halfway house between protection and light.

Open back or closed back

An open back lets light in from underneath and lets the stone touch your skin, which many families want for astrological stones like neelam and pukhraj. A closed back shields a soft or porous stone and works well for opaque gems.

What affects the cost of setting

  • The stone itself. This is priced separately and shown on each listing. Our monthly price guide gives ranges stone by stone.
  • How much silver. Silver is priced by weight and moves with the market. A heavy men's band uses more than a slim ladies' ring.
  • The design. A plain bezel or four-claw ring is the simplest. Patterned shoulders, double bands or decorative heads add labour.
  • Cast or handmade. A cast ring comes from a mould, so it is quicker and usually cheaper. A handmade ring is built around your stone by a karigar and suits large, deep or irregular stones.
  • Size and shape of the stone. Very big, very small or oddly shaped stones need more careful work.

Why setting is worth doing properly

Most stones that go missing are lost because of a weak setting, not a weak stone. Claws that are too thin wear through, a bezel that is not pressed down evenly lets the stone wobble, and a stone forced into a cup that is too tight can chip around its girdle. The setter has to fit the cup to the stone's exact shape and depth. That is why, cast or handmade, we agree the setting for your particular stone before we start.

Traditional finger and metal

A lot of our customers follow a tradition when deciding where a ring goes. Vedic astrology puts pukhraj on the index finger, neelam on the middle finger, yaqoot on the ring finger and zamurd on the little finger, as our planetary stones page explains. In Muslim tradition, many men wear aqeeq, feroza or Dur-e-Najaf in silver on the right hand; see Islamic gemstones. These are traditions, and for religious questions please ask a scholar you trust. Tell us which finger and we will size and style the ring for it.

How ordering works

  1. Choose a stone from any category on the site, or ask us on WhatsApp to suggest some for your purpose and budget.
  2. Measure your finger with our ring size guide or at home, and send us the size with the stone link.
  3. Tell us the style: bezel or claw, men's or ladies', plain or patterned. A photo of a ring you like makes it easier.
  4. We confirm on WhatsApp the design, the full price and the time it will take. Nothing starts until you agree.
  5. We set it, check it and dispatch it by insured, tracked courier. Karachi orders usually arrive in 1–2 working days, the major cities in 2–4.
  6. You open the parcel and inspect it before you pay the rider in cash.

Caring for a set stone

Look at the claws or bezel every few months; a bent claw is the most common way a stone gets lost. Take the ring off for heavy work, sport and swimming. Wash hard stones in mild soapy water with a soft brush, and only wipe soft or porous stones with a dry cloth. Polish the silver with a silver cloth. Our gemstone care guide lists what each stone can handle, and silver vs gold settings compares the two metals.

Common questions

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly — we answer on WhatsApp during working hours.

Can you set stones in gold?

We set in 925 silver only. For gold, buy the loose stone from us and have your own jeweller set it.

Will you set a stone I bought somewhere else?

This service is for stones bought from Authentic Gems. Message us on WhatsApp if you have a question about a particular stone.

Which setting suits my stone?

Hard stones like sapphire and ruby suit claws or a bezel; soft or porous stones such as feroza, opal and pearl are safer in a full bezel. We advise you when we confirm the order.

Can I have an open back?

Usually, yes. Mention it when you order and we will confirm whether it suits your stone; many people prefer it for astrological stones.

How do I pay for a set ring?

Cash on Delivery anywhere in Pakistan. You open the parcel and check the ring before you pay the rider.

How long does setting take?

We confirm the making time on WhatsApp before you order. After dispatch, Karachi usually takes 1–2 working days and smaller towns up to about 7.

Want a closer look before you order?

Ask us for more photos, a daylight video or exact measurements of any stone. We are in Karachi and reply the same working day.
