Why colour matters so much to price
Compare two stones of the same kind and colour will nearly always be the deciding factor. People pay most for a pure hue, a tone that is neither washed out nor too dark, and strong, even saturation right across the face of the stone. A Neelam with a clean mid-blue beats an inky or greyish one of the same weight, and the same goes for Yaqoot and Zamurd. After colour come clarity, size, cut, origin and treatment.
One colour, many different stones
Two stones of the same colour can be miles apart in hardness and value. In a photo, a blue sapphire and a blue topaz can look almost the same, but they are different minerals entirely. That is why every colour page lists hardness and the usual treatments, so you know exactly what you are getting. Everything we sell is natural, and we state any treatment we know about.
