Natural Labradorite Stone in Pakistan
At first glance labradorite is a plain grey stone. Then you tilt it and a sheet of peacock blue, green or gold lights up across its face. That flash is called labradorescence, and it is why people who see one in person usually want one. Every labradorite at Authentic Gems is a single natural cabochon, photographed as it is, priced on its own, and chosen for the strength of its flash.

How the flash works
The colours are not pigment. Light bounces between extremely thin layers inside the crystal, much like the colours on a soap bubble. Because it only shows at certain angles, the cutter has to orient the stone carefully, usually as a smooth oval or round cabochon with the flash facing up.
What to look for
- Flash colour - strong blue and green are popular; stones that also show gold, orange, pink or purple are especially wanted.
- Coverage - the more of the face that lights up, the better.
- Intensity - a bright, electric flash beats a faint, patchy glow.
- Body and surface - a darker body often makes the colour look richer; check for cracks or a dull polish.
- Size and shape - a symmetrical, well-domed cabochon looks best in a ring or pendant.
Price follows these points. Each listing is one stone, so its per-carat rate is the price divided by carat weight.
Spectrolite and sources
The stone takes its name from Labrador in Canada, where it was first described. Much of today's gem material comes from Madagascar, while Finland is known for an especially colourful type sold as spectrolite, which can show the whole spectrum. If we know the origin, the listing says so.
Real or imitation?
On real labradorite the flash switches on and off as you tilt the stone; the colour moves. Coated glass and painted-back imitations show colour from every angle and look static. Our authenticity page explains how we check each stone.
Belief and tradition
Labradorite has no place in the classical planetary systems, but modern crystal lore treats it as a stone of magic and protection, said to sharpen intuition and shield the wearer. It is usually set in silver. These are beliefs, not guaranteed effects, and many buyers simply love the light show.
Care
At about 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, with cleavage planes, labradorite can chip if struck. Clean it in mild soapy water, skip ultrasonic cleaners, and store it away from harder gems.
