Yellow Gemstones: Pukhraj, Sunehla, Agate and Amber پیلا
In short: We carry four natural yellow stones: pukhraj (yellow sapphire), sunehla (citrine), yellow agate and amber. Pukhraj and citrine are transparent and faceted, yellow agate is translucent and waxy, and amber is a light organic resin. Pukhraj is the hardest and the usual choice for astrology; citrine is a separate, softer stone.
The yellow stones we stock are pukhraj (yellow sapphire), sunehla (citrine), yellow agate and amber, all natural. Pukhraj and citrine are clear and faceted, yellow agate is translucent with a waxy shine, and amber is a featherweight organic resin. Pukhraj is the hardest of the four and the one most people choose for astrology.

Pukhraj or citrine?
Pukhraj is far harder, sparkles more brightly and feels heavier for its size. Citrine is softer and lighter in the hand. You will hear some sellers call citrine "sunehri pukhraj", but it is a different stone altogether and its price should reflect that.
Things to check
- Pukhraj: ask if it has been heated. Some astrologers prefer an unheated stone.
- Citrine: a reddish-orange shade usually points to heated amethyst. That is normal, and we tell you.
- Amber: plastic and copal are the common fakes; read amber or copal.
On Cash on Delivery you can open the parcel and look the stone over before you pay the rider, and we can give you a certificate if you ask for one.
What makes a yellow stone worth more
In pukhraj, a clean, bright canary yellow with no brown or green tint is the most valuable, and unheated stones fetch more. Citrine is judged on a deep golden colour and good clarity. Yellow agate is valued for an even, natural glow, and amber for its clarity and any natural inclusions caught inside.
