What a lab looks at in aquamarine
- Identity: refractive index and density tell aquamarine apart from blue topaz, synthetic spinel and glass.
- Heating: most aquamarine is gently heated to clear away a greenish tint. The result is stable and widely accepted, and the report may mention it.
- Lab-grown beryl: hydrothermal synthetic beryl is made, and under magnification it shows tell-tale growth patterns.
- Filled cracks: resin in fractures is not common in aquamarine, but the lab checks for it anyway.
Asking for a report
Choose a stone from our aquamarine collection and message us its link on WhatsApp. We will explain how that particular stone would be tested, and the report reaches you before you pay a rupee. You can do the same with blue topaz, topaz and sapphire. There is more on our lab-certified gemstones page.
