About this stone
Everything we know about it
Description
Picture this 6.45 carat nephrite in a slim silver ring with a closed bezel: a tidy everyday piece, with the stone's natural toughness taking care of the occasional knock. Or hang it as a drop pendant on a fine silver chain, where it sits lightly. Gold is an option too, though in Pakistan silver is the usual partner for stones like this.
Its hardness is 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, plenty for a ring but not for heavy manual work. Because the stone is compact, a rim of metal around it serves better than claws. If you would like a custom silver ring setting, message us on WhatsApp quoting AG-NE-0002 and we can talk it through.
The stone is natural nephrite, sang-e-yashab in Urdu, and you will find it with the others in our nephrite listings.
In fairness to you, some nephrite on the market is dyed or waxed. Ask us what we know about this particular piece and we will tell you; an independent lab check is open to you if you would like one.
Cleaning is simple: lukewarm water, a little soap, a soft cloth, and keep it away from harder stones in the jewellery box.
You pay in cash after checking the stone at your own door. Karachi usually receives orders within 1 to 2 working days, other cities within 2 to 4, and unused stones can be returned for 7 days. Before you choose, read our nephrite guide.
This particular stone
This listing is one natural nephrite with a weight of 6.45 Carat. Its price is Rs. 2,930 — roughly Rs. 454 for each carat. Treatment: treatment not tested. Quote reference AG-NE-0002 when you message us about it. The photographs show this exact stone, so what arrives at your door is the piece you chose on screen.
From six carats up a stone becomes the centre of attention. It wants a broader shank or a secure claw setting and suits an occasion ring, a signet or a centre pendant. Clean natural material of this size turns up far less often, and the per-carat rate reflects that.
On the Mohs scale nephrite rates 6 to 6.5. That is middle-of-the-road hardness: comfortable in pendants and earrings, and in rings worn with some care. Store it apart from harder stones so it does not pick up scratches, and wipe it with a damp cloth rather than scrubbing.
Whoever you buy nephrite from, make sure of three things: the stone is natural rather than lab-grown, glass or glass-filled; any treatment is stated in writing; and the weight quoted is the weight of the finished stone. We check every nephrite for those three points before it is listed, and because you pay on delivery you can look at the stone — or have it tested — before any money changes hands.
