Coral is a soft 3 to 4 on the Mohs scale, so a bezel is advisable, and perfume or chlorine should be kept away. A broad, closed setting also protects it from the sideways knocks soft coral picks up in daily use. When it is not being worn, a soft pouch is the best place for it.
