April Birthstone: Natural White Sapphire and White Topaz اپریل
In short: Diamond is April's traditional birthstone, but we do not sell diamonds, so we offer two natural colourless stones instead. White sapphire is 9 on the Mohs scale and second only to diamond in hardness. White topaz is a little softer at 8, but bright, clean and kinder on the budget. Either gives the clear white look that suits April.
The traditional stone for April is diamond, and we do not sell diamonds. What we offer instead are two natural colourless stones. White sapphire is 9 on the Mohs scale, the hardest gem after diamond. White topaz is a step softer at 8, yet bright, clean and easier on the pocket. Both give you the crisp white look people expect from an April stone.

Traditional belief vs gemmology: anything on this page about luck, protection, planets, healing or religious tradition describes traditional and cultural beliefs — not proven effects, religious rulings or medical advice. A stone's identity, hardness, treatment and origin are gemmology, which a lab can test; the references at the end of the page cover that side.
What April's stone stands for
April belongs to diamond, and for a long time diamond has meant strength and a love that lasts. Here in Pakistan, white sapphire often goes by the name safed pukhraj, and Vedic practice has long used it in place of a diamond. White topaz has no tradition of its own in that sense, but it gives you the same crisp, icy brightness. We do not sell diamonds, so for a diamond itself a specialist will serve you better. There is more background in April's birthstone and its natural alternatives.
Choosing between white sapphire and white topaz
| White sapphire | White topaz | |
|---|---|---|
| Mohs hardness | 9 | 8 |
| Ring worn every day | Handles it very well | Fine with some care; a hard knock can split it |
| How it sparkles | Bright, a little softer and silkier | Bright and glassy |
Whichever you pick, the body of the stone should be genuinely colourless. Even a light yellow, brown or grey tint brings the value down. A white stone hides nothing, so choose one that is eye-clean and well cut, with no dull patch in the centre. You can look through our white topaz, ask us about white sapphire from the sapphire range, or think about Dur-e-Najaf, a clear quartz that carries a tradition of its own.
Spotting a fake
- Glass gives itself away under a loupe with small round bubbles, and its facet edges rub down and turn soft quite quickly.
- Cubic zirconia feels heavy for its size and throws bold rainbow flashes, far more fire than a sapphire or topaz would show.
- Lab-grown sapphire is real sapphire made in a factory, and it can look perfect. Ours are natural only, and we can give you a certificate if you ask.
Looking after a white stone
Skin oil and soap film dull a colourless stone quickly, so clean it often in lukewarm soapy water with a soft brush. White topaz has a cleavage plane, so keep it away from hard knocks and do not put it in an ultrasonic cleaner. Our note on keeping white topaz bright goes into more detail.
Giving it as a gift
A clear white stone sits beautifully with the white and ivory clothes many brides and families wear at a nikah. A white sapphire or white topaz ring makes an easy choice for an engagement or for mooh dikhai. For an April birthday or for Eid, buy a single loose stone and let your family jeweller set it in gold or silver.
Everything we sell is a natural stone, never synthetic and never lab-made. Pay Cash on Delivery anywhere in Pakistan, open the parcel and look at the stone before you hand the rider any money, and send it back within 7 days if it is not right. See how we check every stone.
