Things to check

  • Pearl: look for a deep, even lustre. Rub it lightly on a tooth: a natural pearl feels a little gritty, an imitation feels smooth.
  • Opal: protect it from sudden heat and from long soaking; some opals take up water and go clear for a while.
  • Dur-e-Najaf: glass copies often show round bubbles; read rock crystal or glass.
  • White topaz: it is hard but has cleavage, so keep it away from sharp knocks.

What makes a white stone worth more

A pearl's value comes from lustre, a round shape and a clean skin. Moonstone is prized for a strong blue-white glow sitting in the centre of a clear body. Opal is judged on how bright and varied its flashes of colour are. White topaz and Dur-e-Najaf are valued for clarity and a well-cut sparkle, and Moh-e-Najaf for the quality of its needles.

Common questions

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly — we answer on WhatsApp during working hours.

How can I tell white topaz from Dur-e-Najaf?

White topaz is harder and sparkles more; Dur-e-Najaf is quartz with a gentler shine. A lab test will confirm which is which.

Are moonstone and opal the same thing?

No. Moonstone has a single floating blue-white glow, while opal flashes several colours.

Are your pearls genuine?

Yes, they are real pearls, never plastic or glass. Message us on WhatsApp to ask whether a particular pearl is cultured and where it is from.

Is it alright if opal gets wet?

A quick splash is fine, but avoid long soaking and sudden changes in temperature.
