Natural Chalcedony Stone in Pakistan
Chalcedony is the quiet one of the quartz family: a smooth, softly translucent stone with a waxy glow, most often seen in misty blue, white, grey and lavender. It does not shout, which is exactly why people who like understated rings come back to it. Each chalcedony at Authentic Gems is a single natural piece, photographed as it is and priced on its own.

Chalcedony stones
The parent of familiar stones
Chalcedony is the umbrella name for a large group of fine-grained quartz gems, and several stones Pakistani buyers already know sit under it: Aqeeq (agate and carnelian), Shajri Aqeeq (moss agate) and bloodstone. When a jeweller says "chalcedony" by itself, though, they usually mean the plain, unbanded stone in soft, even colours, and that is what this page covers.
Colours
- Blue chalcedony - a calm, misty sky blue and the most requested shade.
- White and grey - subtle, refined tones that look especially good in silver.
- Lavender and purple - softer and less common.
What separates a good piece
Chalcedony is affordable, but the better stones are easy to spot once you know what to look for. You want even colour without blotches, a soft glow as light passes through, a smooth polish with no cracks, and a well-proportioned cabochon. Natural, untreated colour is preferred, and larger clean stones cost more. The per-carat rate on any listing is the price divided by carat weight.
Dyed, glass or natural?
Chalcedony is a little porous, so it is often dyed, particularly in strong, almost electric blues and greens. Natural colour is gentle and varies slightly across the stone. Glass copies are usually more see-through, may show round bubbles and lack chalcedony's waxy lustre. We check every stone and state any treatment we know of; our authenticity page has the details.
Wear and care
At around 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, chalcedony is hard and tough enough for an everyday ring. Wash it in mild soapy water, avoid harsh cleaners that can affect dyed stones, and store it apart from harder gems.
Tradition and belief
Chalcedony has long been thought of as a calming, gentle stone. Some South Asian astrological traditions link it with the Moon (Chandra) and suggest it in silver for calm and measured speech. These are beliefs, not guaranteed effects, and many people simply choose it for the colour.
