About this stone
Everything we know about it
Description
Thirty-two carats is a very large moonstone, the kind you hold up to the window just to watch the light move. It comes from Ceylon (Sri Lanka), with a milky white, translucent body and a bluish adularescence.
Across the subcontinent moonstone has long been called chandrakant, from the Sanskrit for "beloved of the moon". Traditionally it is linked with the Moon and with Monday, and jewellers in the region have set it in silver for generations. We mention that as tradition and belief, not as a promise of anything.
Mohs hardness is 6 to 6.5, so any ring made from it must shelter the edges well. Honestly, a pendant suits this weight and size best.
Moonstone is typically sold without enhancement. For what we have on this particular stone, message us on WhatsApp quoting AG-000413. Independent lab testing is possible too, if you choose.
If you are comparing names across several stones, the Urdu and English gemstone names list is a handy reference, and the full moonstone category shows what else we have.
It travels Cash on Delivery: check it in front of the rider, then pay. Expect it in 1–2 working days in Karachi or 2–4 in other big cities, and remember the 7-day return policy if it does not suit you. Our moonstone guide is worth a look before you decide.
This particular stone
This listing is one natural moonstone with a weight of 32 Carat. Its price is Rs. 21,000 — roughly Rs. 656 for each carat. Origin: Ceylon (Sri Lanka). Treatment: treatment not tested. Above twelve carats you are into collector territory. Pieces this heavy are usually set as pendants or kept loose, and they are prized for the size of rough they came from. If you do set it, choose a bezel or a heavy claw to protect the edges.
On the Mohs scale moonstone rates 6 to 6.5. That is middle-of-the-road hardness: comfortable in pendants and earrings, and in rings worn with some care. Store it apart from harder stones so it does not pick up scratches, and wipe it with a damp cloth rather than scrubbing.
Whoever you buy moonstone from, make sure of three things: the stone is natural rather than lab-grown, glass or glass-filled; any treatment is stated in writing; and the weight quoted is the weight of the finished stone. We check every moonstone for those three points before it is listed, and because you pay on delivery you can look at the stone — or have it tested — before any money changes hands.
