About this stone
Everything we know about it
Description
Most opals sold for jewellery are far smaller than this one. At 7.25 carats, this Ethiopian multi fire opal will look substantial in anything you set it in, and that is the main thing to understand about it.
Large size has practical consequences. A stone this big is more likely to catch on clothing or knock against surfaces, and since opal is only 5.5 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, a pendant is the more comfortable choice. If you really want a ring, ask your jeweller for a deep bezel.
The listing says multi fire, so look for several colours shifting across the surface. With any opal of this kind, check for hairline cracks, for patches that look dull or chalky, and for how consistently the colour appears from different angles. The reference is AG-000731; ask for a video and we will send what we can.
Solid opal is usually left alone, though smoke and sugar treatments exist, and doublets and triplets are traded. We sell solid natural opal. Ask us what we know about this one, and arrange independent testing if you would like it.
Look through the opal collection for other weights, and read our gemstone buying guide before choosing.
Pay only after you have opened the parcel and looked. Karachi deliveries usually take 1–2 working days, other cities 2–4, with a 7-day return window.
This particular stone
This listing is one natural ethiopian opal with a weight of 7.25 Carat. Its price is Rs. 18,000 — roughly Rs. 2,483 for each carat. Origin: Ethiopia. Treatment: treatment not tested. Quote reference AG-000731 when you message us about it. The photographs show this exact stone, so what arrives at your door is the piece you chose on screen.
From six carats up a stone becomes the centre of attention. It wants a broader shank or a secure claw setting and suits an occasion ring, a signet or a centre pendant. Clean natural material of this size turns up far less often, and the per-carat rate reflects that.
Whoever you buy ethiopian opal from, make sure of three things: the stone is natural rather than lab-grown, glass or glass-filled; any treatment is stated in writing; and the weight quoted is the weight of the finished stone. We check every ethiopian opal for those three points before it is listed, and because you pay on delivery you can look at the stone — or have it tested — before any money changes hands.
