About this stone
Everything we know about it
Description
Tanzanite has no old Urdu name. It is a fairly recent arrival in the trade, so Pakistani buyers simply call it tanzanite, usually while weighing it up against blue sapphire, or neelam. What draws people is the violet-blue colour, not any tradition.
This stone weighs 4.7 carats and rates 6 to 7 on the Mohs scale. That is a little soft for a ring worn every day, so a pendant or earrings suit it better, or a ring with a deep bezel kept for special days.
Almost every tanzanite sold has been heated to bring out its colour, and that is accepted practice. For this exact stone, message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you what we know. If you would like an independent lab report, that is your choice. More sizes are in the tanzanite collection, and our gemstone names guide lists other trade names. Each listing is one natural stone with its own weight and price.
Pay Cash on Delivery once you have opened the parcel and looked at it; Karachi usually takes 1–2 working days, other cities 2–4, and returns are accepted for 7 days. Read our tanzanite guide first.
This particular stone
This listing is one natural tanzanite with a weight of 4.7 Carat. Its price is Rs. 9,750 — roughly Rs. 2,074 for each carat. Origin: Pakistan. Treatment: treatment not tested. The photographs show this exact stone, so what arrives at your door is the piece you chose on screen.
Between two and six carats is the range most people choose for a gents' ring or a noticeable pendant. Here colour drives the price more than size does, which is why two stones of near-identical weight can be priced very differently.
On the Mohs scale tanzanite rates 6 to 7. That is middle-of-the-road hardness: comfortable in pendants and earrings, and in rings worn with some care. Store it apart from harder stones so it does not pick up scratches, and wipe it with a damp cloth rather than scrubbing.
Whoever you buy tanzanite from, make sure of three things: the stone is natural rather than lab-grown, glass or glass-filled; any treatment is stated in writing; and the weight quoted is the weight of the finished stone. We check every tanzanite for those three points before it is listed, and because you pay on delivery you can look at the stone — or have it tested — before any money changes hands.
