About this stone
Everything we know about it
Description
Blue-violet and 5.80 carats, from Tanzania: this tanzanite is often chosen as a rarer alternative to blue sapphire in a ring or pendant. The gem has no long trading history in Pakistan; it only reached the market in the late twentieth century, from a small area of northern Tanzania, so buyers here usually know it by its English name.
Tanzanite is nearly always heated to bring out that blue-violet colour. It is a steady, accepted practice and not a reason to avoid the stone, but you should know about it. If you would like us to tell you more about this exact piece, message us on WhatsApp. Independent lab testing is your choice.
One practical point. Tanzanite measures 6 to 7 on the Mohs scale, softer than sapphire, so it is better suited to pendants, earrings and occasional rings than to a ring worn all day. A protective setting helps if you do choose a ring.
Reference AG-000473. Others are listed under tanzanite.
Order now and pay on delivery after checking the stone. Within Karachi it takes about 1–2 working days, Lahore, Islamabad and the other major cities 2–4, and you have a full 7 days to return it. Read our tanzanite guide before you choose.
This particular stone
This listing is one natural tanzanite with a weight of 5.8 Carat. Its price is Rs. 13,130 — roughly Rs. 2,264 for each carat. Origin: Tanzania. Treatment: treatment not tested. Quote reference AG-000473 when you message us about it. The photographs show this exact stone, so what arrives at your door is the piece you chose on screen.
Between two and six carats is the range most people choose for a gents' ring or a noticeable pendant. Here colour drives the price more than size does, which is why two stones of near-identical weight can be priced very differently.
On the Mohs scale tanzanite rates 6 to 7. That is middle-of-the-road hardness: comfortable in pendants and earrings, and in rings worn with some care. Store it apart from harder stones so it does not pick up scratches, and wipe it with a damp cloth rather than scrubbing.
Whoever you buy tanzanite from, make sure of three things: the stone is natural rather than lab-grown, glass or glass-filled; any treatment is stated in writing; and the weight quoted is the weight of the finished stone. We check every tanzanite for those three points before it is listed, and because you pay on delivery you can look at the stone — or have it tested — before any money changes hands.
