Stones for a men's ring
What a good men's feroza looks like
Feroza is turquoise: a soft, opaque stone that ranges from sky blue to green. Most men who message us want an even sky blue, the colour people have long connected with Nishapur in Iran. Stones with a brown or black web of matrix running through them are just as natural, and some men like that rugged, earthy look; they generally cost less than clean blue stones. Greenish turquoise usually sits lower again.
A lot of turquoise on the market is stabilised, meaning resin has been forced into the stone to harden it and lock in the colour. That is an accepted treatment as long as it's disclosed, and we state it on every listing. Dyed howlite and plastic are sold as feroza in plenty of bazaars; our guide to real vs fake Feroza shows how to catch them, and reading Feroza explains how matrix and colour are graded.
What goes into the ring price
A feroza ring costs the stone plus the ring. Below are our current loose feroza prices, drawn from our own listings and updated every month.
| Weight | Weights | Stones | Per carat | Per ratti |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 – 10 carat | 6.2 – 9.6 ct | 2 | Rs 380 – Rs 750 | Rs 350 – Rs 700 |
| Over 10 carat | 12.6 – 15.0 ct | 2 | Rs 300 – Rs 300 | Rs 270 – Rs 270 |
In Pakistan feroza is often priced per ratti. The gem ratti is 0.91 carat and the jeweller's sunari ratti is about 0.61 carat, so ask which one the seller means, or check with our carat to ratti converter. On the ring itself, four things matter.
- How much silver. Men's rings have a heavier shank than women's, and silver is priced by weight, so a bold band costs more than a slim one.
- The design. A plain bezel on a smooth band is the simplest. Patterned shoulders, a domed top or a pierced back all add work.
- Handmade or cast. Cast rings come from moulds and are quicker. A handmade ring is shaped around your particular stone by a karigar, which suits unusual shapes better.
- Protecting the stone. Feroza is soft, so we prefer a full bezel wrapped round the edge rather than thin claws. It takes a little more silver, but it shields the stone from knocks.
Finger, hand and metal by tradition
In Muslim tradition feroza is usually worn in silver, often on the right hand, on the ring finger or the little finger. Many men stick to silver because scholars commonly advise men against wearing gold; if you want a ruling, ask a scholar you trust. Persian and Central Asian traditions also link the stone with protection and safe travel. These are beliefs many families hold, not promises. Our page on Feroza in Muslim tradition tells the longer story.
Getting a man's ring size right
Men's fingers vary more than you'd think, and the knuckle is often wider than the base of the finger. The ring has to slide over the knuckle and still sit snug. Measure with our ring size guide, or follow how to measure your ring size at home. For a wide band, go up half a size.
Picking the stone size
Most men's feroza rings carry a medium to large oval or cushion cabochon, big enough that the colour shows from across the room. A broad hand carries a bigger stone well, while a slimmer hand looks better with something smaller. Send us a photo of your hand next to a coin on WhatsApp and we'll suggest a size that looks in proportion.
How ordering works
- Choose a stone from our Feroza collection, or tell us your budget and we'll suggest a few.
- Message us the stone link and your ring size on WhatsApp, with a photo of any design you like.
- We confirm the design, the full price and how long it will take. Nothing is started until you agree.
- The ring goes out by insured, tracked courier. Karachi usually receives it in 1–2 working days, Lahore, Islamabad and other big cities in 2–4, smaller towns within about 7.
- You open the parcel in front of the rider, check the ring, then pay in cash.
Looking after a feroza ring
Feroza is porous and soft, about 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale. Oil, perfume, soap and hair products can slowly shift its colour, which is why old untreated stones sometimes go greenish. Take the ring off before washing up, putting on cream or attar, and for the gym or manual work. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth; never soak it and never put it in an ultrasonic cleaner. Keep it in its own pouch so harder stones can't scratch it.
