About this stone
Everything we know about it
Description
There is no separate Urdu name to learn here, because Dur-e-Najaf already is the name. In English the stone is clear quartz, or rock crystal, a mineral that people have cut into beads, seals and ornaments for centuries and that still appears in everything from tasbih strings to modern pendants. Among Pakistani buyers it is the Najaf name that people ask for, and the stone is traditionally set in silver and worn by believers. We describe that as custom and belief only.
This one weighs 17.25 carats. It is colourless and transparent, with a Mohs hardness of 7.
Clear quartz is not usually treated, though asking never hurts. Message us on WhatsApp with AG-000214 and we will tell you what we know about this exact piece. An independent lab test is available if you choose to get one. For other trade names, the Urdu and English names list is useful, and the whole range, small to large, is in the Dur-e-Najaf collection.
Look the stone over at your door and pay afterwards; Karachi orders usually land within 1–2 working days, other cities within 2–4, and you can return it within 7 days. Read our Dur-e-Najaf guide first.
This particular stone
This listing is one natural dur-e-najaf with a weight of 17.25 Carat. Its price is Rs. 3,230 — roughly Rs. 187 for each carat. Origin: Pakistan. Treatment: treatment not tested. Quote reference AG-000214 when you message us about it. The photographs show this exact stone, so what arrives at your door is the piece you chose on screen.
Above twelve carats you are into collector territory. Pieces this heavy are usually set as pendants or kept loose, and they are prized for the size of rough they came from. If you do set it, choose a bezel or a heavy claw to protect the edges.
On the Mohs scale dur-e-najaf rates 7. It handles daily wear, but a hard knock can still nick an exposed corner, so a protective setting is a sensible choice. Clean it with warm soapy water and a soft brush, and keep it away from abrasive cleaners and high heat.
Whoever you buy dur-e-najaf from, make sure of three things: the stone is natural rather than lab-grown, glass or glass-filled; any treatment is stated in writing; and the weight quoted is the weight of the finished stone. We check every dur-e-najaf for those three points before it is listed, and because you pay on delivery you can look at the stone — or have it tested — before any money changes hands.
