About this stone
Everything we know about it
Description
A green-gold flash sets this 30.70 carat labradorite apart from the blue-dominated pieces we usually list. Its origin is given as Madagascar, and it is a stone you will want to pick up and rotate in your hand.
Labradorite takes its name from Labrador in Canada, where it was first described, yet much of what reaches Pakistani buyers today comes from Madagascar. The effect comes from thin layers, called lamellae, inside the feldspar that bend light, so the flash switches on only at certain angles, then fades and returns as you move the stone.
Because the stone is large, the green-gold shows across a broad area. Look at it in daylight and indoors before deciding.
It has a hardness of 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, workable for pendants and for rings that are treated kindly. A silver or gold bezel suits it, and it should be cleaned with a damp cloth only.
Few labradorite pieces are treated, but message us on WhatsApp quoting GSN-LB-13 for what we know about this one before buying. Independent lab testing is your choice. Our labradorite listings show other stones for comparison, and our labradorite buying guide explains what to check.
You open the parcel and see the flash before paying anything. Karachi orders normally arrive in 1 to 2 working days, the rest of Pakistan in 2 to 4, and unused stones can be returned within 7 days.
This particular stone
This listing is one natural labradorite with a weight of 30.7 Carat. Its price is Rs. 4,910 — roughly Rs. 160 for each carat. Origin: Madagascar. Treatment: treatment not tested. Quote reference GSN-LB-13 when you message us about it. The photographs show this exact stone, so what arrives at your door is the piece you chose on screen.
Above twelve carats you are into collector territory. Pieces this heavy are usually set as pendants or kept loose, and they are prized for the size of rough they came from. If you do set it, choose a bezel or a heavy claw to protect the edges.
On the Mohs scale labradorite rates 6 to 6.5. That is middle-of-the-road hardness: comfortable in pendants and earrings, and in rings worn with some care. Store it apart from harder stones so it does not pick up scratches, and wipe it with a damp cloth rather than scrubbing.
Whoever you buy labradorite from, make sure of three things: the stone is natural rather than lab-grown, glass or glass-filled; any treatment is stated in writing; and the weight quoted is the weight of the finished stone. We check every labradorite for those three points before it is listed, and because you pay on delivery you can look at the stone — or have it tested — before any money changes hands.
