Natural Rose Quartz Stone in Pakistan
Rose quartz is natural pink quartz, running from a pale blush to a soft medium rose, usually with a gently milky look rather than sharp sparkle. It is a kind, affordable stone for cabochons, beads and pendants, and some people call it Gulabi Billaur. Authentic Gems is sourcing natural rose quartz now and will list each stone individually with its own photographs. Tell us on WhatsApp what shade, size or shape you would like.

What rose quartz is
It is the same mineral as clear Billaur and purple amethyst (Jamunia): silicon dioxide, 7 on the Mohs scale. Most rose quartz grows as solid masses of rock rather than clear, pointed crystals. Its pink comes from microscopic fibres of a pink mineral spread through the quartz, and those same fibres scatter light, which is what gives it that hazy, milky softness. Brazil and Madagascar are the big sources, and pink quartz appears in many pegmatite regions around the world.
Shades and varieties
- Pale blush: the most common, a light pink that looks best in larger beads and carvings.
- Medium rose: a clear, even pink, the favourite for cabochons and rings.
- Translucent, facet-grade: clearer material is scarcer and can be faceted for a gentle sparkle.
- Star rose quartz: some cabochons show a six-rayed star under a single light, a natural effect called asterism.
- Crystallised pink quartz: small, transparent pink crystals, a rare collector material quite separate from massive rose quartz.
Real rose quartz, dyed quartz or glass?
A loud bubblegum or neon pink should make you suspicious. The usual imitations are:
- Dyed quartz or quartzite: colour collects in cracks and around bead drill holes, and the pink may look blotchy under a torch.
- Pink glass: may show round bubbles or swirl lines, warms quickly in the hand and often looks too even.
- "Cherry quartz": a trade name for streaky coloured glass, not quartz at all.
- Resin or plastic beads: light, warm to the touch and easily scratched.
Natural rose quartz has a soft, slightly uneven colour, feels cool, and shows a glassy lustre on polished faces. A lab can confirm quartz quickly. See our guide to checking a gemstone before you buy.
Treatments
Most rose quartz is untreated. Some beads are dyed to deepen the pink, and some low-grade material is soaked in resin to hide cracks. When we list rose quartz, we will state any treatment we know of.
What makes one piece worth more
Colour leads: a clear, saturated medium pink beats very pale or greyish material. Transparency follows, because clearer stones are rarer. For cabochons, cut and polish matter, with a smooth dome and good symmetry showing the colour best; for beads, an even colour along the strand counts. In star rose quartz, a strong, centred star adds value. Size matters less than with rarer gems, since rose quartz comes in large pieces.
Rose quartz is an affordable stone. To get a feel for what similar budgets buy, see our gemstone price guide and the stones listed under 5,000 rupees.
Care
Strong sunlight over long periods can fade rose quartz, so keep it away from sunny windows. It is hard enough for daily wear but can crack or chip from a sharp knock, especially if it has internal fractures. Clean it with warm soapy water and a soft brush, and keep dyed or resin-filled stones out of ultrasonic cleaners.
Rose quartz in tradition
Rose quartz is widely associated with love, gentleness and harmony at home, and it is a popular gift for engagements and anniversaries, often set in silver. It has no fixed planet in classical astrology. These are beliefs, not promised effects. See stones for love and harmony and nikah and wedding gemstone gifts.
Rose quartz or another pink stone?
Rose quartz is softer in colour and cloudier than most pink gems. Kunzite is transparent and changes shade as you turn it, pink tourmaline is clear and often deeper, and pink topaz is bright and slippery to the touch. If you want a clear, sparkling pink, one of those may suit you better.
Shapes and settings
Because most rose quartz is translucent rather than clear, it looks best in shapes that hold colour: smooth cabochons, round beads, hearts and carvings. A bigger stone usually shows a richer pink than a small one cut from the same rough, so pale shades suit larger pendants. In a ring, a bezel or rubover setting protects the edges better than tall claws. Silver flatters the soft pink and yellow gold warms it; see silver vs gold ring settings and our stone setting page.
