This is the yellow variety of the same mineral, spodumene, known in the trade as triphane. We list it with our kunzite because it is the same material in a different colour. It is a clear yellow with a faint green cast, and ten carats at this level of transparency is unusual to find loose.

What to look for

Hardness is 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, but there is perfect cleavage, so a sharp knock can split it. Treat it gently and choose a protective setting.
