Description

A pale yellow-green kunzite of 11.50 carats suits someone who already owns a pink one, or who wants a cool, gentle stone for evenings rather than a loud everyday ring. It is a collector's colour more than a conventional one.

What you get

The body sits between lemon and light green, bright and clean when held to the light. Kunzite is a form of spodumene, and material in this yellow-green range is sometimes sold under the name hiddenite.

Hardness is 6.5 to 7, which sounds comfortable, but kunzite also splits easily along internal planes, so a sharp knock matters more than the number suggests.

Setting and care

Choose a setting that shelters the edges, such as a bezel or a pendant mount, and keep the stone away from ultrasonic and steam cleaners. Warm water, mild soap and a soft cloth are all it needs.

Stones in this family are sometimes irradiated or heated, and the colour can soften after long exposure to strong sun. Message us on WhatsApp quoting GSN-KZ-10 and we will tell you what we know about this exact piece; independent lab testing is your choice.

Compare it with the rest of our kunzite stones if you want a second view on colour.

Inspect it at home before you pay, as every order is Cash on Delivery. Karachi deliveries usually take 1 to 2 working days, Lahore, Islamabad and other cities 2 to 4, and you have 7 days to return it unused. Before you choose, read our kunzite guide.

This particular stone

This listing is one natural kunzite with a weight of 11.5 Carat. Its price is Rs. 13,130 — roughly Rs. 1,142 for each carat. Treatment: treatment not tested. Quote reference GSN-KZ-10 when you message us about it. The photographs show this exact stone, so what arrives at your door is the piece you chose on screen.

From six carats up a stone becomes the centre of attention. It wants a broader shank or a secure claw setting and suits an occasion ring, a signet or a centre pendant. Clean natural material of this size turns up far less often, and the per-carat rate reflects that.

On the Mohs scale kunzite rates 6.5 to 7. That is middle-of-the-road hardness: comfortable in pendants and earrings, and in rings worn with some care. Store it apart from harder stones so it does not pick up scratches, and wipe it with a damp cloth rather than scrubbing.

Whoever you buy kunzite from, make sure of three things: the stone is natural rather than lab-grown, glass or glass-filled; any treatment is stated in writing; and the weight quoted is the weight of the finished stone. We check every kunzite for those three points before it is listed, and because you pay on delivery you can look at the stone — or have it tested — before any money changes hands.

Questions about this stone

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly — we answer on WhatsApp during working hours.

Is this yellow kunzite natural?

Yes. It is natural spodumene, the yellow variety known as triphane, not a lab-grown or glass stone. Kunzite is commonly colour-enhanced in the trade and we do not hold a treatment report on this particular stone, so we state what we know rather than claiming it is untreated. Message us and we will arrange independent testing if you want it confirmed before you buy.

Can this 11.50 carat stone be worn in a ring?

It can be, but at this size a pendant or an occasional-wear cocktail ring suits it better than a daily ring. A stone this large needs a heavy claw or bezel setting to shield it, since kunzite has perfect cleavage and a knock on the wrong plane will split it.

Will the colour fade?

Kunzite can pale after years of prolonged direct sunlight. This is well documented for the mineral and is why it is sometimes called an evening stone. Normal indoor wear and daylight will not affect it; store it in its pouch away from a sunlit window and it will keep its colour indefinitely.

How should I clean it?

Warm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft cloth or very soft brush. Never use an ultrasonic or steam cleaner on kunzite, and keep it away from perfume, hairspray and household chemicals. Put jewellery on after cosmetics, not before.
