Ruby rings, made to order
Yaqoot Ring Price in Pakistan: Ruby, Silver and Setting Explained یاقوت کی انگوٹھی کی قیمت
In short: The ruby sets most of a Yaqoot ring's price, and the silver setting adds the rest. In ruby, colour is everything, with a strong, pure red to slightly purplish red valued most, followed by clarity, size, origin and treatment. Lead-glass-filled ruby is worth far less but is often sold as natural, so always check that treatment has been disclosed.
Yaqoot (ruby) is one of the ring stones Pakistanis ask for most, and one of the most faked. A ring's price depends first on the ruby and then on the silver setting. Authentic Gems sells natural rubies as loose stones, each photographed and priced individually, and sets the one you choose in a 925 silver ring made to your size, all agreed with you on WhatsApp.

The four things that set a Yaqoot ring's price
1. The ruby
With ruby, colour decides almost everything. The most valued stones are a strong, pure red to slightly purplish red, the shade the trade sometimes calls pigeon blood. Pinkish, brownish or very dark rubies are cheaper. Clarity comes next: nearly every ruby has some inclusions, and fine silk can even soften the colour pleasantly, but big cracks and cloudy areas pull the value down. Price rises steeply with size, because clean rubies over a couple of carats are rare. Origin plays a part too. Pakistan's own Hunza rubies are known for their colour, while Madagascar and other African sources supply much of the market.
Treatment is where many buyers get caught out. Heating is common and accepted. Lead-glass-filled ruby, where cracks are packed with glass to improve the look, is worth much less and is less durable, yet it is regularly sold as natural Yaqoot with no mention of the filling. We state known treatments on every listing. Before buying from anyone, read how to identify original ruby.
The table below lists the loose rubies currently in our shop, generated from our own listings and updated every month.
| Origin | Weights | Stones | Per carat | Per ratti |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kashmir | 6.0 – 15.9 ct | 11 | Rs 1,400 – Rs 2,400 | Rs 1,250 – Rs 2,200 |
| Madagascar | 2.3 – 5.1 ct | 8 | Rs 1,650 – Rs 2,900 | Rs 1,500 – Rs 2,600 |
| Mozambique | 1.6 – 8.5 ct | 7 | Rs 11,000 – Rs 56,000 | Rs 10,000 – Rs 51,000 |
| Other / origin not stated | 0.7 – 8.1 ct | 34 | Rs 850 – Rs 22,500 | Rs 750 – Rs 20,500 |
Comparing quotes per ratti
In Pakistan, ruby is often priced per ratti. The standard gem ratti is 0.91 carat, but the sunari ratti used by jewellers is about 0.61 carat, so a "per ratti" price can be a third higher or lower depending on which one is meant. Convert both quotes to carats with our carat to ratti converter, and only compare stones with similar colour and the same treatment.
2. How much silver
We make rings in 925 sterling silver, priced by weight at the market rate. A thicker shank costs a little more and lasts longer.
3. The design
Ruby rates 9 on the Mohs scale, so claws hold a faceted stone safely, and many people like the way open claws let light in. A bezel suits men's rings and cabochons. Ornate patterns add extra work.
4. Handmade or cast
Cast rings are made from standard moulds. A handmade setting is shaped around your stone, which helps with deep or unusual cuts.
The traditional way to wear Yaqoot
Vedic astrology gives ruby, or Manik, to the Sun. By custom it is worn on the ring finger, usually of the right hand, set in gold or copper and first put on on a Sunday morning. We set rings in 925 silver; if you would like gold, buy the loose stone and have your own jeweller set it. Yaqoot is also held in high regard in Persian and Muslim tradition. These are beliefs, not promises, and for religious questions please ask a scholar you trust. See how to wear ruby and our Leo stones page.
Ruby, or a more affordable red?
If a fine ruby is out of reach, do not settle for a suspiciously cheap "Yaqoot". There are honest options: garnet gives a deep red for a fraction of the cost, and red agate or red coral work well for anyone wanting red in a men's ring. Each is sold under its own name. Browse by budget, starting under 5,000 rupees, and compare against the monthly price guide.
Getting the size right
Measure the ring finger of the hand you plan to wear it on, preferably in the evening when fingers are slightly larger. Our ring size guide converts between Pakistani, US and UK sizes.

Looking after the ring
Natural ruby is tough, but glass-filled ruby is not, which is another good reason to buy a stone whose treatment is disclosed. Clean a natural ruby ring with warm soapy water and a soft brush, dry it, and keep it away from softer jewellery. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, and get the claws checked every few months. Our guide to reading a ruby explains grading in more detail.
