Libra Gemstones: Opal and White Sapphire برج میزان
In short: Libra, or Tula in Vedic astrology, is ruled by Venus, whose classical stone is diamond. Since we do not sell diamonds, for Libra we recommend opal, which tradition names for Tula, or white sapphire, the nearest substitute for diamond. Many buyers also pick white topaz, and tradition says to first wear the stone on a Friday morning.

Traditional belief vs gemmology: anything on this page about luck, protection, planets, healing or religious tradition describes traditional and cultural beliefs — not proven effects, religious rulings or medical advice. A stone's identity, hardness, treatment and origin are gemmology, which a lab can test; the references at the end of the page cover that side.
The main stone: opal or white sapphire
In jyotish the chief gem of Venus is diamond (Heera), and the same tradition also lists opal for Libra. Opal is what most Libra customers ask us for, and you will find it under our Ethiopian and Australian categories. White sapphire comes closest to diamond as a substitute; message us on WhatsApp about it, or browse our sapphire listings.
The substitute: white topaz
White topaz is bright and clear, and many families wear it as their Venus stone. White zircon is mentioned as a substitute too. Tradition links Venus with love, marriage, comfort and the arts.
Wearing a Venus stone the traditional way
- Finger: the middle or ring finger.
- Metal: silver, white gold or platinum.
- Day: first put on on a Friday morning.
Most readings keep Venus stones apart from yellow sapphire (Pukhraj).
Checks before you buy
- With opal, make sure it is one solid stone, not a doublet or triplet, and not synthetic.
- Its play of colour should shift as you turn the stone.
- With a white stone, ask whether it is sapphire, topaz, zircon or glass, and whether it is natural.
- Any known treatment should be declared. Read how we check every stone.
Our article on wearing opal goes into opal in more depth.
Setting a budget
Opal is valued on its play of colour, its body colour and its size. Compare stones using the 5,000 to 20,000 and 20,000 to 50,000 filters. White topaz often appears under the Under 5,000 filter.
Looking after it
Opal is soft and may crack if it heats up suddenly, so keep it out of hot water and off a sunny car dashboard. White topaz is hard, yet a sharp knock can split it. See our gemstone care guide.
Buying opal and white topaz from Authentic Gems
We photograph each stone as it is, price it on its own and tell you about any known treatment. You can ask for a certificate, and independent lab testing can be arranged. Pay Cash on Delivery anywhere in Pakistan, opening the parcel to check the stone before paying the rider. Confirmed orders leave within 1 working day; Karachi deliveries usually take 1–2 working days and other major cities 2–4. See our delivery details. Opal is cut as cabochons, so let us know the ring or pendant shape you want and we will find stones to suit it.
The dates above are Western sun-sign dates. In Vedic practice your rashi is the sign the Moon was in at the time of your birth, which is often different from your sun sign. Our rashi guide explains how to find it.
