Peshawar buyers know stones well. They also know that glass, synthetics and heavily treated material move through the same lanes. A wholesale market or a single retail stone?

A wholesale bazaar is a good place for a dealer who can grade a parcel by eye. For someone buying one stone for one ring, it is harder:

• The grading is your job. Colour, clarity and cut have to be judged on the spot, often in dim light.
• Paperwork is scarce. Cut stones rarely come with a written treatment statement or a lab report.
• Treated and synthetic stones sit beside natural ones. Heated, glass-filled and lab-grown corundum can all fool an untrained eye.

With us, each listing is a single stone with its own photos and price, and the per-carat rate is simply the price divided by the carat weight. Pakistan's own stones

Peshawar takes real pride in local material, and rightly so:

• Swat emerald (zamurd): deeply coloured, usually small.
• Kohistan peridot (zabarjad): bright green, often clean in larger sizes.
• Aquamarine (beruj) from the Shigar valley and Gilgit-Baltistan.
• Tourmaline in greens and pinks from the northern ranges.
• Katlang topaz from near Mardan, prized for pink and sherry tones.

When a stone in our collection is Pakistani, the listing says so. When it is from Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Mozambique or elsewhere, it says that, and only where the origin can be supported.

Checking any stone you buy in Peshawar

1. Daylight first. Shop lighting flatters every stone.
2. Treatment and origin in writing. "Kashmir neelam" or "Burma yaqoot" without a lab report is a sales line, not a fact.
3. Compare per carat. A clean, vivid stone far below the usual rate is very unlikely to be natural.
4. A lab for valuable stones. An independent report states the species, whether it is natural, and any treatment.

Delivery to Peshawar and the rest of the province

Once confirmed, orders leave Karachi within 1 working day and usually reach Peshawar in 2 to 4 working days by insured, tracked courier: Hayatabad, University Town, Saddar, Cantt, Gulbahar or the old city. Nowshera, Mardan and Kohat follow on similar timings, while Swat, Abbottabad and the hill towns can take up to about 7 working days. Delivery is a flat Rs. 500 per order.
