Looking after a stone in heat and dust

The hot, dusty summers on the edge of Cholistan are hard on jewellery. Fine sand gets under settings and, over time, scratches softer stones such as opal, pearl and turquoise. Rinse your ring in warm soapy water every few weeks, dry it with a soft cloth, and keep each stone in its own pouch so the harder ones don't scratch the softer ones.
