Sialkot makes things the world examines closely. Surgical instruments, footballs, sports goods and leather leave the city's workshops for buyers abroad against tight specifications, and Sialkot is proud too of being Allama Iqbal's birthplace. That habit of checking every detail is exactly the right way to buy a gemstone. Authentic Gems sends natural stones from Karachi to Sialkot by insured, tracked courier with Cash on Delivery, and this page shows you how to "spec" a stone before you pay for it.
A spec sheet for a gemstone
An export order comes with a spec, a sample and an inspection. A gemstone deserves the same. Before buying any stone, from us or from anyone else, you should be able to fill in every line of this:
| Item | What to ask for | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Species | What the stone really is, e.g. "corundum (blue sapphire)" | Trade names like "neelam" get used loosely |
| Weight | Exact carats, to two decimal places | "Roughly five ratti" cannot be checked |
| Per-carat rate | Price ÷ carat weight | The only fair way to compare offers |
| Natural or synthetic | A clear written statement | Lab-grown stones can look flawless |
| Treatment | Heating, oiling, filling or dyeing, if any | Heating is normal; glass filling at natural prices is not |
| Documentation | A certificate, or an independent lab report for a valuable stone | It is your evidence if a question comes up later |
Each listing at Authentic Gems is one natural stone, photographed as it is and priced by itself. We inspect every stone, disclose known treatments, and provide a certificate of authenticity on request; independent lab testing can be arranged if you ask. Our authenticity page explains each document.
"Kashmir neelam" and other origin names
Sialkot is close to the Kashmir border, and "Kashmir sapphire" is a name with real romance in the city. Genuine Kashmir sapphires came mostly from a short burst of mining in the 1880s and are now extremely rare; most stones sold under that label come from somewhere else entirely. The same caution applies to "Burma yaqoot" and "Colombian zamurd". Only a recognised laboratory can confirm origin, so treat an origin claim without a report as a description, not a fact. We state origin only where it can be supported.
What Sialkot customers ask us about
- Neelam (blue sapphire): Saturn's stone by tradition, popular with factory owners and exporters.
- Yaqoot (ruby): the traditional stone of the Sun and a classic men's ring.
- Zamurd (emerald): linked with Mercury and, by tradition, with trade.
- Pukhraj (yellow sapphire): Jupiter's stone in Vedic tradition.
- Feroza and aqeeq for traditional rings.
- Opal, topaz and amethyst for gifts and fashion pieces.
Astrological associations are traditions and beliefs, and we do not promise outcomes. See our rashi guide and the gemstone names page.
Gifts for clients and family
A lot of Sialkot firms give gifts to clients and family, and a natural stone with its paperwork is an easy gift to explain. Tell us the budget and who it is for on WhatsApp, and we will suggest stones from current stock, each with its own photos and weight. We deliver within Pakistan only, so for a buyer abroad, have the stone delivered here and hand it over on your next visit.
